Christmas Inspiration and how to go from 'Pin' to page - Cameo Classroom

Here is a foundation page I have made using my Silhouette Cameo and I'm going to show you how you can do it too!
When this little beauty dropped through my letterbox, advertising the Christmas shopping events locally, I knew it would be inspiration for my December daily, I just wasn't sure how. I decided to cut out the elements in lots of different papers using my Cameo.
I used gold and aqua vellum, gold and mushroom coloured glitter paper, red mirri board and some green patterned paper for the holly from Shimelle's Christmas magic collection. The white plastic doily is left over from a Studio calico kit I had ages ago.
A lot of the designs have been made from outlines I have pinned to my Christmas Graphics Pinterest board here, or my Christmas cut files and printables board here.
The snowflake for instance was a pattern for how to hand cut a snowflake here and I have used the trace and cut feature in the Silhouette Cameo software to let my machine cut it out for me on a small scale. Here's how you can do it too. (By the way, I have Silhouette Designer Edition software, but it works on the normal software too, just the dashboard of the software can look different.)
Step 1
Open the graphic in your silhouette software, by searching where you have saved it on your PC with the command file open at the top left.
Step 2
Click on the trace feature on the top right hand side. It is a blue box with a yellow outline, I have highlighted it here in blue at the top right, that opens the trace window.
Click on slect trace are at the top in the trace window and then click and drag a square over the first snowflake you want to trace.
In the trace window a little lower down, un-check the High pass filter and the design should go yellow like this. When it looks like this, you need to hit the 'Trace' button which is a couple of buttons higher than the High Pass filter button.
Step 3
The design should now be traced with a red outline and you can click on it and move it to the side of your mat like I have here. Repeat this method with each snowflake type you want to trace. Once you have all your snowflakes ready you can delete the black and white original design from your mat to get it out of the way, by right clicking it and pressing delete.
Now you can arrange your snowflake designs according to how many you want of each colour, making sure to choose the correct paper type and blade depth for each type of paper. I used the recommended settings in the drop down
Handy Tip: I couldn't find the blade depth setting after my latest Silhouette software update! I put a plea out on social media and someone told me you have to click on the media type for the blade setting to appear. It is not obvious like it used to be! Above you can see I was clicked on a paper type from my last usage and there was no blade depth showing, I had to click again for it to appear below this window than I knew what depth to alter my blade to.
I never cease to be amazed by the detail this machine can cut. I had wondered if these designs were too hard but no, it cut them a treat in this gold vellum.
I did exactly the same with the deer silhouettes in glitter paper, the seed pods, the holly, the music notes and the stars. The hearts I used a punch.
This is how I arranged them on my 6x12 page of white card stock. I used the Martha Stewart ball point tip glue pen to stick them down.
Thank you for all your kind comment on the face book group. Thanks for looking and check out my Pinterest boards for more of my inspiration!

Free file tab cut file and wobbly circle die cut for December Daily

If you are joining in with Ali Edwards December Daily, you might like to use this free print and cut file for file tabs, I designed for the Silhouette Cameo.
First I decided on 15 things I would definitely be documenting, then I added them to ombre file tabs before printing out on sticker paper and cutting with my Cameo.
If you have the software, you can edit the tabs for your own use or remove the writing to just leave them blank. You can also change the size and colour to suit your format. I am using 6 x 12 this year so I wanted fairly large tabs. I may not use them all but its another option! This file is available to download here.
I also designed this cut file for a wobbly circles divider a bit like the one in last year's kit. It is 6x12 but you could resize it to 6x8 or 6x4. I cut it in Silhouette chipboard using two sheets and then glued them together, going to spray it white with Calico White from Mister Hueys. This file is available to download here. Thanks for dropping by!

December Daily Foundation pages Part 7

Page 30
This page is for the 23rd of December which is my son's 25th birthday this year. I have tried to give it more of a birthday vibe and used the 23 black gift tags from Ikea last year and the gold 25 from the Jasmine Jones kit in one of the 3x4 pockets. The bottom pocket is a journal card from the 6x4 Felix set from Seven paper. I can list 25 good times from over the years or ask him to.
Page 30
On the back of the cards I have added a 'ba hum bug' card from the jasmine Jones kit as my son always moans that  his birthday is overshadowed by Christmas! He should be thankful, he was actually due on Christmas day!
Not sure if I may need more room for Christmas Eve, I have started with a 6x12 divided page protector with two 6x4 slots available but as we have a family get together this year, it may need to have an extra page protector added. The 24 Kraft label tags were also from Ikea last year, the two cards in the 3x4 slots are from the Jasmine Jones kit. I like to add a carol quote on this date as we always used to go to midnight mass on Christmas eve.
Page 31
The back of the Kraft tags are showing and I think this may be a pocket I sew up with sequins inside.
The biblical quote on this card is from the Jasmine Jones kit.
The right hand 5x12 page is the other half of the Maggie Holmes Confetti hooray paper and I thought it heralded the start of the big day quite well! I have added the acetate 25 from the Felix collection from 7 paper and will stitch this in place nearer the time.
Page 32
I backed the hooray paper with the red Felix 012 paper as Christmas day says red to me!! I added the gold acrylic 'Joy' word from Jasmine Jones at Studio Calico and may stitch through this by hand to hold it on. The page protector on the right is a 12 x 12 project life page protector I fused using the Photo fuse tool, into two 6x12 pages, then I scored with a bone folder and creased to make a fold out page. The outer cover contains the gold 25 6x8 page from the Jasmine Jones kit with the red 'Merry Christmas' card trimmed from another 6x8 page soo that it fits above.I added the acetate holly sprig from the Jasmine Jones mini kit on top.
Inside the fold out page is the card that says 'Christmas morning and the rest is all plain white for now until I know how many photo's I want to fit on here. I like the interactive fold out aspect of it.

December Daily Foundation Pages Part 6

Page 24
The back  of the Felix 010 paper is this pink tartan I quite like, so I think it will stay with a photo and journaling possibly. The facing page is an empty 6x4 pocket at the top a square number 19 acetate from the Amelia collection in the bottom pocket and two 3 x 4 cards from the Jasmine Jones mini kit in the middle.
Page 25
The back of the 3x4 cards here are black and white  I like the naughty or nice card for Sergio!!! Haha! The right hand page is another page I made with gold numbers acetate from the Dear Lizzy Documentary line.
Page 26
The back of the acetate shows here. Again this could move to a more relevant position if I want at a later date.
The Twenty black and white number card is trimmed down from last year's Pink Paislee Merry & Bright line.  The bottom 6x4 card is from the Felix 6x4 journaling card pack, it says 'insert happiness here' in gold.

Page 27
I like the back of this card too in black on white. I put it opposite a red and white candy stripe paper from the Jasmine Jones kit in a 5x12 page protector I made,  with the acetate 21 above it.
Page 28
Behind the candy stripe paper I added a trimmed down aqua twinkle star paper from Jasmine Jones, opposite a 3x4 card showing the 'wish list' and 'peace, love, joy' card from the same mini kit.
Page 29
I trimmed down an acetate 22 from the Amelia set to fit in a 3x4 pocket and cut some of the dark green paper from Jasmine's mini kit to go behind it.The back of the other 3x4 card is showing through in the other [pocket because it had an alphabet list down the side. I might use this to make lists of Christmas things that start with that letter.

Opposite there is another 5x12 page using the Felix 006 paper with reindeers on it.
Thanks for sticking with me so far!

December Daily foundation pages part 5

PAGES 18 & 19
Every year I am so excited to get started with this project I can't wait! Making the foundation pages helps with the anticipation! I shared already how to print on vellum and this is one of Alis digital pages from the kit I printed, the tree. It is a stand alone page because it is see through so I can move it wherever I want in my  album, for me that might be the day we do the trees or it could be the day it snows, if we get any!!!!! Above you can see the back of the vellum print and below you can see the front. I like how it looks opposite these two papers, 010 and 011 both from the & [paper Felix line at Studio Calico, so it might stay right here in  my album! The numbered tags were from IKEA last year and I taped them on roughly with some Washi from the Jasmine Jones mini kit. They may move on the page eventually but I like them here for now.

Page 20
The back of the 011 paper is red and I like it too so I teamed this up with some pink and red embellishments. The top card is from the Felix 6x4 journaling card set and the bottom card in aqua id more of Jasmine Jones great script from the mini kit. For the number seventeen card, I trimmed down a Pink Paislee card from last year's Merry & Bright collection and added the parcel acetate embellishment from the Felix set I bought. This page might be about presents and wrapping because I'm hopeful it will all be finished by then!! Who knows!
Page 21
I like the back of the top card but I'm not so keen on the back of the bottom card so this may end up being covered by a photo or I could use it for journaling. The middle two spaces could be either or a confetti pocket if the day has not many pics (more about filling gaps in a later post). I then cut a piece of gold striped vellum  from the Maggie Holmes Open Book collection to make a page on the right, and punched holes in it. I just drew around a page protector for size and hole location. I like some of my pages not contained in plastic so that it adds texture (more ideas on adding texture in a later post).
Page 22
The back of the vellum  on the left and a page protector on the right with just the two middle 3x4 pockets filled with Jasmine Jones cards.
Page 23
On the back of one of these cards I have added another acetate embellishment from the Felix set  (see earlier).
The right hand page is a 5 x 12 page using 010 paper from the Felix line and I added a piece of green 6x8 paper from the Jasmine Jones kit trimmed to fit. I added a gold 18 using stickers and framed it with a chipboard frame from Crate Paper. This green card is movable at the moment. Day 18 already, this album is filling up! Thanks for looking.

December Daily Foundation Pages Part 4

Page 13
This page shows the back of the acetate number 11 from the previous page. As these numbers are square I am going to use my fuse tool to create a two inch pocket that will hold a tag or embellishment next to it.
The number 12 is from the black and white numbers set from Pink Paislee  Merry & Bright last year, that were square cards and I trimmed this to 3x4 and put it next to the Jasmine Jones fa la la card that is black and white.
The top pocket is empty for a photo and the bottom pocket has a white card with some of the Jasmine Jones washi tape and an acetate wreath, both from the mini kit. Maybe some typewritten journaling here eventually.

Page 14
The back of all of these cards are mostly white. Day 13 is the day of our local Christmas festival where I go to see the reindeer so I made this pocket a 5x12 using 006 Felix paper from 7 paper with reindeer on it. A number 13 acetate can sit on the top of this, I think I might stitch it in place. I could even trap some sequins behind it to make a shaker pocket.
Page 15
The back of the reindeer paper is showing here in white with a 'Merry Everything' card in gold from the Jasmine Jones mini kit in the top pocket. the middle two pockets are empty and the bottom pocket holds the Holiday snippets card. Not sure if I will write in this or add index prints. I might cover the word holiday with festival too as we in the UK don't call Christmas holiday.

Page 16
The back of the 'Merry Everything' is also gold foiled on green, so I may use this side too!.
The back of the holiday snippets card is showing here so I can use this in a variety of ways too.
The right hand page is blank pocket top and bottom for a 6x4 photo and in the middle another black and white number card from Pink Paislee paired with a black and gold leaf card from the Jasmine Jones mini kit.
Page 17
The numbers 1 and 5 for the 15 are cut out from the gold acetate sheet called Poolside cut ups from Crate Paper. They are in the two middle pockets so they are backed by the cards from the previous page.
The right hand page is a 6x12 page of paper 003 from the 7 paper Felix line.

Half way there in the album now. Thanks for looking.

December Daily 2015 Foundation Pages Part 3

Following on in my album:
Page 11
The left hand page has the back of the two 3x4 cards from the Jasmine Jones mini kit and to the green one I added acetate from the Felix pack that said "All I want for Christmas".
The right hand side has the top pocket empty for a photograph ans the middle two filled with 3x4 cards. I added a gold foil 8 to the red card. The gold foil "together" card is in the bottom pocket.
Page 12
The 3x4 cards are the back of the previous page cards, but the bottom card is a card from the 7 paper Felix 6x4 card set. The right hand page is a narrow page protector 5x12 that I made with my fuse tool. I trimmed this 6x8 card from the JJ mini kit to fit in it and there is still room at the top of the pocket to add something else (a photo or some sequins with my fuse tool.)
Page 13
The back of the 6x8 JJ mini kit card has journaling lines that I might use, so I keep that on the left hand side. By this time in the month I am hoping my gift list is completed so I have added that card on the right hand side with a chipboard 9 over some acetate snowflakes from the Felix acetate set. The other 3x4 is blank for a photo and the top pocket has red striped border card in at the moment which could contain another photograph made smaller to sit in the frame.
Page 14
The other side of that top 6x4 card here is Merry Christmas from the Jasmine Jones kit. The back of that chipboard ( needs embossing and then in the lower pocket is a family recipe card. The 3x4 on this page will hold a photo.
The right 6 x 12 page protector is a resized digital print from Ali's Main kit which I printed on vellum. At the moment it also has an acetate "tis the season" disc and a gold "for you" acrylic work by Jasmine Jones at Studio Calico. If you want to see printing on vellum see this post here. (Also there are tips on other ways to include vellum here from my 2013 album.)

Page 15
I love how the back of the vellum page is just as good as the front!  The right hand side is a 6x12 page with an acetate number 10 loose on the top at the moment. I  may stitch this in place eventually.
Page 12
The back of the Felix 007 paper is shown here on the left and I will make a 6x12 layout out of this page, like a scrapbook normal layout to add variety.
On the right the start card is in the top 6x4 pocket and an acetate 11 is in the bottom pocket. The two 3x4 pockets in the centre are for photo's and journaling. I may seal up the side of the acetate 11 with my fuse tool and make a sequin pocket here.
Thanks for looking X

December Daily foundation pages Part 2

Page 5
Following on in my album I have a 6x12 page using some more 009 Felix paper from Seven paper with an acrylic word by Jasmine Jones at Studio Calico. The right hand page protector has a blank 6x4 pocket at the top, an acetate tree from the Felix collection and a 4 cut from the Poolside foil cut out acetate over another acrylic doily. The card in the bottom pocket for journaling is a Felix card from the 6x4 pack at 7 paper. We often put our tree up about this date.

Page 6
This shows the back of the acetate doily and the acetate tree and the back of the journaling card opposite another 6x12 page of paper ) 03 from the Felix collection.
 Page 7
This shows the back of paper 003 opposite a pocket page protector with two blank 6x4 pockets ready for photographs and two 3x4 pockets with 3x4 cards in. This date is my husbands birthday so I used the "Today is" card from the Jasmine Jones mini kit. I added a large gold 5 sticker to another Jasmine Jones card for the date.

 Page 8
This shows the back of the two 3x4 cards that I can use for journaling and the two 6x4 pockets empty for photographs. I may not need all of these pockets for pics but I can fill them up in other ways. I used another chipboard number for the date in the right hand page protector and placed it on a 3x4 card. I may stitch it in place I'm not sure yet. I added the Jasmine Jones foiled star card on those page too. the top pocket has a piece of wood-grain white card-stock in it. Not sure what I am doing on that yet. Maybe watercolour.
Page 9
This shows the back of the Jasmine Jones cards and the white card stock. The right hand page has a piece of numbered acetate in gold with a chipboard 7 stuck on top with some Jasmine Jones Washi tape from the kit. I may leave it like this or stitch it, or move the number if I need to.
Page 10
This shows the back of the acetate page and two 3x4 cards in the right hand page protector from the Jasmine Jones mini kit.

Let's talk using digital elements in your December Daily

I'm not usually a digital scrapbooker but I do do hybrid. In the past I have combined some digital journaling cards and stamp brushes with the Minc to produce my own elements for my December Daily album.

Yesterday I purchased this Canyonlands cut file by Paige Evans from Studio Calico (no connection) resized it in my Silhouette software and printed it on my laser printer on some spare scrapbook paper, then ran the page through the Minc,
I also bought some digital cards from The Digital Press and opened them in Photoshop elements to convert them to PNG files. Then I opened my Silhouette software to trace the words I wanted, fill them with black and print them to my laser printer at 6x4 size for Minc foiling.
The other thing I wanted to try was typewritten journaling on acetate in white. I couldn't work out if this was possible, but I did type it and print it on my laser printer on heat resistant acetate, then run it through the Minc with mint green foil. Not easy to photograph, but here are the results! I think I will journal one day like this for my December Daily for a change.
Why not give it a try yourself? TFLx

December Daily 2015 foundation pages part 1

Each year I am excited to start this project and in the past I have prepared my pages in advance, so this year is no exception. What I have learnt over the last five December albums I have done is THINGS CHANGE!
Every year I think I want a more minimal look and every year it never works out that way! I want to cram lots in! So I am learning to be more flexible and know that what I have done so far, is not set in stone. I have left more gaps this time! I have resisted stitching or sticking anything down I know it will evolve!
First things first:
(As I said in my previous post I am working in 6 x 12 for the first time)
1. I am using one of the Ali Edwards mini kits from Jasmine Jones with some of the Studio Calico Felix line from 7 paper. A mixture of numbers from my stash and the Amelia transparency numbers from Studio Calico
2. I am trying to stick to a simple colour palette.
3. I have printed off a planning calendar sheet from Pinterest here and entered any events I am sure are happening for the month, so I know what space to allow.
4. Some of my pages are smaller than others intentionally to break it up and I have added some acetate and vellum dividers ( shown here) in there too for more fun. (These can and will move!)
So let's get started!
My title page I blogged here if you missed it and so this meant I had a 6x12 pocket for day 1. (I am thinking a double page spread covers it for most days with extras added if needed.)
Page 1:
On the left I had the back of the Felix 009 paper which was a brick wall. I added the December calendar page from Jasmine Jones kit to the back of it and there is space above and below to document "the reason why". Opposite I am using a standard pocket page from this album that was included, so a 6x4 top and bottom and two 3 x 4 pockets in the centre. In the top pocket I placed a number 1 transparency from the Amelia acetate set and the acetate word December from Jasmine Jones' kit, (still loose and not sure how I am securing them yet. May be stitching) The middle pages are blank for two small photo's from the day and the bottom pocket has a journaling card 'tis the season' in gold, from the Felix 4x6 journaling card set.

Page 2
Turning over, on the back it shows the back of the acetate number and December in the top pocket and the back of the 'tis the season card that is pink! I quite liked this so I decided to leave them there and not cover them and have space for two more 3x4 photo's or journaling to go with day 1. This sets the scene for the colour scheme for December 2nd and I have added to the pink theme here!
In the top pocket I found two chipboard frames in my stash, (Crate paper open road) one pink and one grey and I am mounting them back to back eventually with a photo inside. As they don't fill the whole pocket, I am probably going to add a few sequins and stitch the pocket up at the top to stop it all falling out!
This page has the two 3x4 pockets filled, one with a Jasmine Jones card from her kit and the other with a gold '2' cut from a Crate paper poolside cut up acetate sheet I had in my stash. I then placed the snow-globe from the acetate shapes from the 7 paper Felix line behind it to bring that aqua colour back in.
In the bottom pocket there is a Felix 6x4 card that says 'card list' as I am thinking I will be on with my Christmas cards this early in the month.
Page 3
The back of the page shows the grey frame in the top pocket and the back of the snow globe and the Jasmine Jones card in aqua. I added a white card from Jasmine's kit to the bottom pocket but this might end up having a photo in there depending how many pics I have on that day.
The right hand page of this spread is a narrow 5x12 page protector I made myself. At the moment it has the Seven paper Felix paper 012 in it and a December flair badge on a red foil star punch-out on an acrylic lace doily just loosely place on top. This may stay plain as a divider or it may end up with a photo on, not sure, flexible.

Page 4
The back of paper 012 is grey and I like it so I left it! It may stay that way! Another divided page protector opposite, this time with one 6x4 pocket and 1 3x4 pocket left empty for photographs and the other two containing acetate elements, a doily under a chipboard 3 and the bottom pocket an acetate star from a recent SC project life kit. These last two pockets will remain see through, I like that in the album.
Here you can see it in the album showing a frame underneath and when we turn the page we can see it reveals a 6x12 page with another chipboard frame on it from Crate paper open road collection. By positioning the frame here I can protect that blank space when I add photo and journaling to the 6x12, so the see through element remains.
I can use the back of the 6x4 and 3x4 pocket for photos and journaling for day 3 too. I will be covering the back of that chipboard 3 in patterned paper or embossing powder when I get here.
So that's enough for one post! Join me again soon for my next few days!!
